The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) recently published the 2011 NAR Investment and Vacation Home Survey. According to this survey, vacation-home sales accounted for 10 percent of all real estate transactions last year and investment sales were 17 percent of the overall real estate market.
The median vacation-home price was $150,000 in 2010, while the median investment-home price was $94,000.
These real estate statistics described the typical vacation-home buyer to be 49 years old with a median household income of $99,500 and purchased a property that was a median distance of 375 miles from their primary residence. Investment-home buyers had a median age of 45, earned $87,600 and bought a home within a median distance of 19 miles.
Thirty-four percent of vacation-home buyers said they plan to use the property as a primary residence in the future, as did 10 percent of the investment buyers.
My friend, Laura Seefeldt, Johnson Bank, shared the following good new with me today. Even with the stock market news, there is some good news for the housing market!!!
"On The heels of yesterdays 500+ drop in the DOW, unemployment figures were released this morning with surprisingly good results. 117,000 new jobs were created in the private sector last month, much better than expected. The result was a lowering of the unemployment rate to 9.1% from the previous months 9.2%. So the roller coaster continues and I thought I would share a rate sheet today to give you an idea where rates stand. Historically low!!"
Home loan interest rates are still VERY APPEALING... 15 year fixed at 3.4% with jumbo loan rates on 15 year fixed at 3.875%! THIS IS GOOD NEWS FOR THE HOUSING MARKET...NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY!

Birch Creek Music Performance Center is a summer music school for advanced young musicians. Students are taught by nationally-known performers and educators during the day and perform alongside them in concerts at night. In August you can enjoy part 2 of the concert Big Band Jazz series.
August 3 - Star Dust (night sky viewing), August 4 - Swing City at Birch Creek (night sky viewing rain date), August 5- Swing City at Birch Creek (dancing optional). Concerts begin at 8pm in the Dutton Concert Barn. Student prelude performances begin at 7:30 pm in the Courtyard gazebo or in Juniper Hall.
